United Way of the Mohawk Valley Launches GAP Map Project, Inviting Organizations and Community Members to Help Build a More Accessible Mohawk Valley
UTICA, N.Y. – United Way of the Mohawk Valley is inviting organizations, professionals, and community members to take part in the GAP Map Project, a collaborative effort to identify accessibility barriers, celebrate inclusive spaces, and build a comprehensive resource that helps people navigate Oneida and Herkimer Counties with confidence.
The GAP Map is a community-driven project designed to improve accessibility by bringing together the expertise of organizations and the lived experiences of community members. Information gathered through this project will help identify gaps, highlight accessible locations, and inform future efforts to create more welcoming and inclusive communities.
To ensure a broad range of perspectives, United Way is offering two distinct ways to participate.
GAP Map Series Workshops
The GAP Map Series Workshops are designed for organizations and professionals representing a variety of sectors. Participants will work collaboratively to identify barriers, discuss solutions, and contribute professional expertise that will help shape the future of accessibility throughout the Mohawk Valley.

Herkimer County
  • Dates: August 27, September 3, November 5, and December 3, 2026
  • Time: 3:30–5:00 p.m.
  • Location: The ARC Building, 420 E. German Street, 2nd Floor – Gateway Center, Herkimer

Community GAP Map Workshops
In addition to the organizational workshops, United Way is hosting two Community GAP Map Workshops specifically for residents of Oneida and Herkimer Counties. These interactive sessions are an opportunity for community members to share their personal experiences, identify accessibility barriers, discuss local challenges, and recommend solutions that will help strengthen the GAP Map.
Every voice matters, and community feedback is essential to ensuring the GAP Map reflects the real experiences of those who live, work, and visit our region.
