The highlight of the Herkimer County Hunger Coalition’s March activities was awarding prizes to the 12 fourth graders at Dolgeville Elementary School who participated in its 20th Raymee the Leprechaun Coloring Contest.
“There’s nothing more rewarding than looking at the smiling faces of young children, especially in this day and age,” commented contest co-chairman RJ Lenarcic. The other co-chair is Lenarcic’s wife, Kay.
A total of 45 students entered the event, and each received something for their efforts.
The winners and their prizes follow: First ($20)-Lilah Randal, Avaley Serow, Derek Barker; Second ($10)-Maci Foster, Avery Dykeman, Sophia Lawson; Third ($5)-Charlotte Lynch, Bailey Stallman, Adrian Burgos, Kinsley Palmeter, Skylar Rubas, Alannah Grassel.
The drawing of the leprechaun was by Sentinel cartoonist and retired Benton Hall Academy (Little Falls) principal Joe Long.
Dolgeville El-Ed will be participating in the Gram Lorraine Children’s Christmas Program for the first time under the direction of Principal Tim Barnes and School Nurse Heather Campione.
Additional activities included providing Easter candy delights to 65 BOCES students who are part of the Gram Lorraine Program and $400 worth of diapers for parents of the same children.
Easter candies were also provided for clients of the Dolgeville Food Pantry, overseen by Vietnam combat veteran Spike Seeley.
Finally, some $500 worth of shampoo, dish soap, laundry detergent, and mouthwash was donated to the Old Forge library’s Lobby Food Pantry.
