Lois Margaret (Chaffee) Ward Burdick, 94, of Geronimo, OK and formerly a long-time Dolgeville area resident, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 14, 2026 at Temple Manor in Temple, Oklahoma after suffering a stroke and a brief illness.
She was born on March 16, 1932 in Carthage, New York and was the daughter of the late, Roy and Jeraldine (Card) Chaffee. She was educated at a one room schoolhouse in Natural Bridge, New York.
Lois was married to James E. Ward until January of 1959. She moved to Dolgeville, New York and worked at Daniel Greens Slipper Company. In 1962, she moved to Stratford, New York. There, in 1964 she married Lyle E. Burdick, Sr. They were married for 27 years. During their marriage they resided in Stratford, Salisbury Center, Dolgeville and Florida.
They both moved to Florida where she was employed by Pitney Bowes. After the passing of her husband, she retired and moved to Oklahoma where she resided for the last 28 years.
She is survived by her children, Ellery “Quinn” Burdick and his wife, Marsha, Lionel Ward and his wife, Peggy, Lyle Burdick, Jr. and his wife, Diane, Sylvia Foster and her husband Brian, and Wanda Soderberg-Beck. Lois leaves many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews; and a special friend and sister-in-law, Mayfred Chaffee.
Lois was predeceased by her parents, Roy and Jeraldine Chaffee; two brothers, Alan Chafee and Norman Chaffee; and a sister, Jean LaFrance.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister and friend, Lois will be missed by all who knew her.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 24, 2026 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at locally owned and family operated, Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York 13329. A funeral service will follow the calling hours at 3 p.m. and will be directed by her children and family. Procession will follow to Salisbury Rural Cemetery in Salisbury Center, New York where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Lyle.
The family will hold a reception following the burial at the Stratford Methodist Church, 2545 St. Hwy. 29A, Stratford, New York 13470. All are welcome to attend.
