LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. – Residents and visitors alike will have a chance to hunt for treasures across the city as Little Falls hosts its inaugural city-wide garage sale on August 9, 2025, coinciding with the 38th annual Canal Celebration.

The event, running from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., aims to draw crowds beyond the traditional festival hotspots and showcase more of what the community has to offer.

Organized by resident Kim Kelley, the garage sale invites participants to open their driveways and yards for a day of bargaining and browsing.

Those interested in hosting a sale must submit their address by July 31, 2025, either by texting Kelley at 865-919-8005 or adding it to the dedicated post on the Little Falls Information Page on Facebook.

Kelley will compile the addresses into a flyer, which will be shared digitally on social media and printed for distribution at various locations around town.

Cathy Cristman, one of the organizers for the Canal Celebration, shared insights into how the idea came to fruition.

“Kim Kelley reached out because she’d seen an ad for the Sherrill Garage Sale and asked if it’s something that we’ve ever thought about doing, which we did. We tossed around the idea last year, but there was only so much we could handle. But I told her if it’s something she wanted to do and run, have at it,” Cristman said.

The initiative gained traction quickly after Kelley posted a survey on Facebook, garnering significant interest from the community.

Cristman noted that the event aligns perfectly with the spirit of the Canal Celebration, which typically centers activities in parks like Eastern (Ward) Park and Burke Park. “A lot of the local towns have been doing this for years, and it just makes sense that it’s another way to bring people into town. And if they’re here wandering around the streets, they’ll get to see different things that we have to offer,” she explained.

By encouraging participants to explore residential areas, the garage sale could highlight lesser-known attractions, such as the city pool or other community features.

“During the Canal Celebration, there are various activities taking place in the parks. But if you’re going to one park and you don’t realize that you have other things going on… the garage sale will now get people to wander around,” Cristman added. “It’ll spread them out  and they’ll get to see more of the city.”

The city-wide garage sale marks a new addition to the Canal Celebration lineup, promising to boost foot traffic and foster a sense of community discovery.
