Dr. Alan Yallowitz, a longtime dentist in Little Falls, New York, has received a $50,000 reimbursement check from the City of Little Falls as part of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) small business fund.

The grant supports the purchase of advanced dental equipment, helping modernize his practice at Little Falls Dental, located at 513 Garden Street.

Urban Renewal Director Jacob Manning presented the check to Dr. Yallowitz, joined by Mayor Deborah Kaufman.

The funding, administered through New York State Homes and Community Renewal under the DRI program, aims to bolster downtown businesses and enhance community services.

In commenting about the grant, Dr. Yallowitz emphasized the importance of staying current with technology to attract younger patients and new talent to the field. “I mean, you gotta stay up with the technology to stay current,” he said.

He noted challenges in recruiting new dentists to smaller communities like Herkimer County, where many practices are aging and closing without replacements.

“Dentistry is moving, unfortunately, like pharmacy and medicine and is going corporate. And it’s getting ugly. It’s embarrassing what’s happening to the field.”

Dr. Yallowitz highlighted that the new equipment—described as the latest available—will help draw in emerging professionals. “I’m getting to the point where I’m going to want to get a new dentist to come in here, and you have to have the technology to get some young kids coming out of school.”

Jacob Manning, Urban Renewal Director, described the project as a significant upgrade. “We were working with Dr. Yallowitz and his team on getting him this dental equipment that he definitely needed,” Manning said. “It’s a great upgrade for him, and will attract new patients because he can do additional services, like with the milling machine can offer same day crowns and things of that sort.”

He acknowledged some initial challenges but praised the state’s receptiveness: “After some back and forth with New York State, homestead community renewal, they were very receptive to a project like this. And I think this will greatly benefit the community.”

Mayor Deborah Kaufman celebrated the impact on the local downtown. “This is an exciting day to be out and actually see the recipient benefiting from the small DRI project, with its equipment in place and patients using it,” she said.

“Businesses like this, in our downtown district, are so cherished, and we’re so fortunate to have Dr. Yallowitz and his practice in Little Falls. The idea that this grant really will make a difference in his practice and make it easier, more modern and sophisticated. We’re excited about that. We wish him all the best with it.”

Dr. Yallowitz, who has practiced in Little Falls since 1993, continues to serve the community with a focus on accessible, high-quality dental care.

The upgraded equipment positions his practice to offer more efficient services, such as same-day crowns, which is a real benefit for his patients.
