Little Falls welcomed two businesses with grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremonies on Saturday, marking significant milestones for both The Mustard Seed and Best Buy Appliances. The events highlighted the community’s vibrant entrepreneurial spirit, with local leaders and business owners sharing their excitement for growth and opportunity.

The Mustard Seed Blooms at New Location

The Mustard Seed, a beloved local shop, celebrated its expansion to 401 Canal Place with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Owner Julie Webster expressed her enthusiasm for the new space, which fulfills a long-held dream. “We have spent the last two months making our dreams come true and our most favorite shop yet,” Webster said.

She emphasized the importance of the shop’s makerspaces, noting, “Paying attention to those makerspaces because they’re so important to us. It’s all come to fruition. It’s exciting.”

The expanded location not only offers more room for shopping but also serves as a hub for community gatherings, including garlic festival meetings and other local events.

“We made that space happen. Save the space for both shopping, which is terribly important, but so is the making and the meeting space,” Webster added.

Mayor Deborah Kaufman praised The Mustard Seed’s commitment to the community, highlighting its long-standing presence since 1994.

“It’s really wonderful to see a business that started in 1994 continue to reinvest, especially in the community down at Canal Place,” Kaufman said. “They believe in the community and they invest continuously in making things better in this area and providing more for people who are neighbors or people who are traveling and just want to pop in for a quick gift or something.”

Best Buy Appliances Transitions to New Ownership

Meanwhile, Best Buy Appliances marked its grand opening under new ownership after 38 years in business. Garrett Wright and Brennen Thompson, who took over the store two weeks ago, shared an update on the transition.

“It’s been going good. We’ve had four sales so far. So honestly, it’s beyond our expectations. We’re just getting everything set up,” Wright said.

The store is preparing to welcome major vendors, such as GE and LG, in the coming months and is finalizing its credit card processing system.

Wright also highlighted the addition of full-service offerings, which include certified technicians handling service calls.

“We’re also taking on full service now. So we’ve had a couple of service calls that have had a certified technician go out, and that’s good, and we’re excited about that,” he noted.

The business is also nearing the launch of its website, which will allow customers to browse products and apply for financing online.

“We were hoping to have it today, but it should be early next week. And then people can see, for instance, instead of having to shop and ask, ‘Hey, what do you guys have?’ Everything will be there, the prices will be there,” Wright explained.

The grand openings reflect Little Falls’ ongoing growth and the dedication of its business community.

As Mayor Kaufman noted, “I’m thrilled for the city to see this happen and to see the expansion of an existing business and new ownership of one that has been here for years. I think it’s absolutely wonderful and thrilled for their success.”
