LITTLE FALLS, NY – Tyler Jones had five RBIs in Game One for the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs on Tuesday, but it was Boonville’s Carter McKay coming up with three big RBIs in Game Two to earn the doubleheader split.

The doubleheader began with a resumption of a game from June 16, with the Lumberjacks leading 2-0 after  one-and-a-half innings. However, the Diamond Dawgs exploded out of the gate when play resumed from a weather suspension, thanks to 2-RBI singles by Kaden Hart (Virginia Tech) and Tyler Jones (George Washington). In all, five runs crossed the plate in the bottom of the second, obliterating the Lumberjacks’ lead.

Jones kept it going in the fourth, smacking a 3-RBI double to right field. Jones’ long fly ball died at the wall, but was still able to score John Ramsey (Trinity), Ian Oehlschlaeger (RPI) and Hart.

Boonville would score one in the top of the ninth. However, that six-run cushion would still be enough for the Diamond Dawgs’ pitching staff to shut out Boonville the rest of the way and earn the Game One win.

Christopher Collina (Wagner College) picked up his first win for Mohawk Valley, going five innings and racking up four strikeouts.

Carter McKay (Memphis) started Game Two off with a bang, parking a ball into the center field bleachers to score himself and Elijah Hurt (Seminole State College).

Bo Jonas (Central Florida) extended the lead to three on a hard-hit double in the fourth, scoring his Central Florida teammate, Alex Rodriguez.

The Diamond Dawgs got on the board with a JP Kuczik (Fairfield) walk with the bases loaded, bringing home Ethan Pues (Warner).

In the seventh, the Lumberjacks (9-6) added more insurance on an RBI single by McKay. That would be all Riley Hasenstab (Georgia Tech) would need, shutting down Mohawk Valley in order to get the save.

Drew Harris (George Washington) got the loss for Mohawk Valley (10-7).

The Diamond Dawgs will be back at Veteran’s Memorial Park on Saturday when they host the Amsterdam Mohawks.
