Little Falls, NY — Junior guard Adriana Izzo scored a game-high 20 points, including the 1,000th of her varsity career, powering the Little Falls Mounties to a dominant 53-22 victory over the Herkimer Magicians on Monday night.
The milestone basket came amid a strong team performance, with the Mounties pulling away early and maintaining control throughout. Izzo’s achievement marks her as one of the program’s elite scorers, joining a select group whose names adorn the gym wall.
“It’s kind of surreal,” Izzo said after the game. “It’s a big accomplishment. I’m proud, but it hasn’t hit me yet.”
When asked when the reality might sink in, she replied, “I don’t know. When I see it on the banner up on the wall, in the gym.”
Izzo reflected on her career highlights, emphasizing team growth over individual moments. “I don’t know if there’s a high point,” she said. “I think just growing with my team and seeing everyone else succeed around me makes it fun. So, I’m proud that I got to accomplish it with my teammates.”
Head coach Pam Munger praised Izzo’s dedication and the team’s progress.
“Adrian’s points were going to come,” Munger said, noting the team’s improved defense as a key factor. “Our defense really has started to pick up a little bit, which I think is really making a huge impact in our games.”
Munger highlighted the challenges earlier in the season, including a tough opener and injuries, but expressed optimism about the Mounties’ development. “Each game, individual skills are getting better. Individual confidence is getting better. And these guys are happy with each other. They’re having fun.”
On Izzo’s milestone, Munger added, “It’s the amount of time that the girls put in that gets their name up there that is incredible. And she’s been playing hardball since she was little… She has such passion in her heart. She loves the game and always wants to do well. So I’m extremely happy for her. She has certainly earned it.”
Munger also credited Izzo’s family, including her mother, who played under Munger years ago, for their support through AAU and beyond.
The Mounties sprinted out to a 20-6 lead by the end of the first quarter and added 21 more in the second to take a 41-11 advantage into halftime. From there, Little Falls concentrated on defense while holding the Magicians at bay to seal the victory.
Izzo’s 20 points included one three-pointer while draining five of six from the free throw line to lead all scorers. Teammate Andy-Lynn Podlas had 15.
With the victory, Little Falls moves to 2-2 on the season. They will remain at home for their next game, hosting Clinton on Friday night.
The Magicians are now 0-6 on the season. They, too, will face Clinton in their next game, on the road against the Comets on Tuesday night.
