WEST WINFIELD, N.Y. — Two undefeated teams collided on Wednesday when the Herkimer Magicians Varsity Boys Soccer Team traveled to West Winfield to face the Mt. Markham Mustangs.
When the game was over, it was the Magicians who remained unbeaten, as they defeated the Mustangs 3-2 to improve their record to 3-0.
Herkimer came out strong, getting goals from Nick Allen, Liam Miller, and Adam Fountain to build a 3-0 lead at halftime. The Mustangs flipped the script in the second half, getting goals from Landon Ratcliff and Dominic Catrombone to get within one. It wasn’t enough, however, as Herkimer held on for the one-goal victory.
Russell Stapf made nine saves in goal for the Magicians to pick up his third win of the season. Mt. Markham goalkeeper Alan Macario-Hernandez stopped 12 shots.
Up next for the Magicians is a Saturday matchup at home against the West Canada Valley Nighthawks.
