CORTLAND, N.Y. — The Frankfort-Schuyler Maroon Knights Girls Soccer Team continued its dream season on Saturday in defeating the Hamilton Emerald Knights 1-0 for the Section III, Class C title.
Frankfort-Schuyler entered Saturday’s game as the sixth seed while Hamilton was the number four seed. The teams had played twice in the regular season – the Maroon Knights won the first matchup in Hamilton 2-1 on September 13. Three weeks later, they played to a 0-0 tie on Frankfort’s pitch.
Sanita Selimovic scored her team-leading 17th goal of the season in the first half for what turned out to be the game’s only goal. It was all Frankfort-Schuyler goalkeeper Ella Kaleta needed, as she made 12 saves to record her seventh and perhaps biggest shutout of the season.
The Maroon Knights now have a record of 17-2-1. They now advance to the Class C NYSPHSAA regional semifinals, where they will face St. Lawrence Central on Tuesday at Potsdam High School.
