Early protection advised for vulnerable populations
UTICA, NY — Kinney Drugs has opened seasonal flu vaccination appointments in all of its pharmacies. The 100% employee-owned pharmacy chain is among the first to receive the vaccines in the Mohawk Valley.
Kinney Drugs has ample supply of vaccines on hand, available for those ages 2-64 in New York, and 3-64 in Vermont. High-dose vaccines for seniors age 65+ are also now available. For the 2026-2027 season, flu vaccines are a trivalent formulation offering protection against three flu viruses: A/H1N1, A/H3N2, and B/Victoria Lineage. The new H3N2 component was selected to better address the subclade K H3N2 virus that was predominant during the 25/26 season. Influenza vaccines are reviewed and reformulated annually to address currently circulating strains of the virus.
Appointments can be scheduled at KinneyDrugs.com, or by using the Kinney Drugs app. When booking online, look for the “Pharmacy” tab, and click to “Vaccines and Immunizations” to schedule an appointment. A list of stores is available on the website, or you may search by zip code. Walk-in appointments are also available at neighborhood Kinney Drugs locations.

While anyone can get sick, research shows that some populations are at a higher risk for developing serious flu-related complications.
“Serious illness can happen to anyone, but some populations are at higher risk,” Marraffa said. “Older adults, people with chronic conditions like asthma, diabetes, or heart disease, those who are pregnant, and young children can all experience more severe flu outcomes. Getting vaccinated every year is important, to protect yourself and the people you care about.”
