About the Training:
OPS Basics is a no-cost, 16-hour certification course designed to equip first responders with essential skills in peer support. Participants will learn how to offer confidential, compassionate support, recognize signs of crisis, and connect colleagues to additional resources when needed.
The training is grounded in shared experience, cultural understanding, and trust—delivered by experienced instructors who’ve walked the walk.
Who Should Attend:
This course is open to all current and former first responders, including law enforcement, fire service, EMS, dispatch, corrections, probation, parole, Hospital-based professionals in crisis-facing roles, and civilian agency personnel.
It’s a valuable opportunity to strengthen internal peer support efforts or lay the foundation for a new program within your agency.
This training was created by first responders for first responders, and is being offered locally by NAMI Syracuse in partnership with NAMI Finger Lakes.
Important Note:
Completion of this course provides OPS peer support certification; however, there is no requirement to join the Overwatch Peer Support (OPS) team. Those interested in applying to serve as a certified OPS Peer Supporter may do so after the training, but participation is entirely optional.
