The Enhance Community Access Project, funded through the Downtown Revitalization Initiative, is underway at the Little Falls Public Library. The project includes the installation of an elevator to replace the existing inoperable unit and provide access to the entire original structure from the basement to the third floor. Installation of the elevator will provide access to the currently inaccessible third floor, allowing for exemption of available physical space that would be accessible to all members of the community, including youth, seniors, and those with physical handicaps.
A significant component of library use is the provision of space for multiple academic, educational, and social-emotional support services. These services include, but are not limited to, one-on-one tutoring, GED test preparation, instruction for suspended students, and social service counseling. These services would greatly benefit from distraction-free spaces where the privacy and dignity of participants could best be preserved. Increasing community requests for facility use and additional library programming have all dramatically highlighted the limitations of our current physical space.
The Enhance Community Access Project will allow for the creation of dedicated rooms for tutoring, GED preparation, instruction for suspended students, and counseling, as well as an additional classroom and meeting space.
The library board is extremely grateful for New York State’s Downtown Revitalization Project and to Mayor Deborah Kaufman and the City of Little Falls for their support of this project.
