Dolgeville Police and NYSP Apprehend Barricaded Subject After Standoff

DOLGEVILLE, NY — June 30, 2026 — A 54-year-old male is in custody following an hours-long barricade situation and shots-fired incident on Spencer Street Monday evening.

On Monday, June 29, 2026, at approximately 6:37 PM, the Dolgeville Police Department responded to a Spencer Street residence regarding an emotionally disturbed person. Upon arrival, officers learned a male subject had been yelling obscenities at neighbors and their children in a nearby backyard. During the confrontation, neighbors reported hearing what sounded like small-caliber gunshots being fired in their direction, forcing them to take cover and call 911.

When the first Dolgeville officer arrived on the scene, the subject shouted obscenities at the officer and fired another gunshot from a second-story window.

The New York State Police (NYSP) and the Dolgeville Fire Department responded immediately to assist in establishing a secure perimeter. The subject refused to answer repeated telephone calls from law enforcement and barricaded himself inside the home.

NYSP crisis negotiators deployed to the scene and attempted to establish communication, but the individual remained unresponsive. After exhausting all verbal negotiation tactics, NYSP special operations officers utilized specialized equipment to force entry into the home.

The subject relented upon entry and was taken into custody safely without further incident. Following a search of the residence, officers removed six CO2 pellet guns and secured the guns as evidence.

Dolgeville police transported the male to Wynn Hospital for a mental health evaluation. An Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) was also served upon the subject, blocking him from legally purchasing and possessing firearms in the future. Several criminal charges are pending the completion of the investigation.
