UTICA – The Irish Cultural Center of the Mohawk Valley is delighted to welcome back Maire Ni Chathasaigh and Chris Newman to its stage at 7 PM Friday October 2, 2026.

If you missed them when they were here in 2023 now is your chance to catch them; and if you saw them in 2023 you certainly won’t want to miss seeing them again.

The virtuoso partnership of England’s premier flatpicking guitarist and “the greatest Celtic harper of our age” (LIVE IRELAND) has by now brought its unique musical vision to twenty-two countries on five continents. Chris and Máire have performed at nearly two thousand venues large and small throughout the world.

Máire is one of Ireland’s most influential traditional musicians, described by the late Derek Bell of the Chieftains as “the most interesting and original player of the Irish harp today”.

Chris is an entirely self-taught virtuoso who’s been obsessed with the guitar since the age of four. At fourteen he played his first paid gig in a folk club. He met the great swing guitarist Diz Disley in his late teens and played with him the length and breadth of the UK. Diz was responsible for re-launching Stéphane Grappelli onto the world stage after a period of relative obscurity, and through him Chris had the good fortune to play with Grappelli’s band for a while. Chris still cites guitarist and band-member Denny Wright as the primary influence on his distinctive and melodic style of improvisation.

Tickets, $25, are available online at https://bit.ly/4vBGFa1  or at the Five Points Public House. Tickets are free for Children 12 and Under. Any questions, call and leave a message at 315-733-4228 Ext 6.

This concert is proudly sponsored by Craobh Dugan-O’Looney.
