LITTLE FALLS, NY – Big hair, neon, and a little nostalgia took over Chickweed’s new courtyard on Saturday, September 19, as the Main Street boutique hosted an 80s-themed pop-up event.
The event was a collaboration between Chickweed owner Kelly Grcic and Tracy Young. It was held in the courtyard and patio area that Kelly’s husband, Dan Grcic, created for the store at 642 East Main Street.
Young said the idea grew out of a conversation about how vividly they both remember the decade. “We started talking about just how much we remember the 80s and everything, and Kelly’s like, maybe we should do a pop-up because she’s having all the pop-ups here on the new patio,” Young said.
She sent Kelly a picture, and the two started trading ideas. “We’re throwing it back,” she said.
The pop-up is one of several events on the new patio. Grcic said the space has been busy since it opened. “We’ve had multiple vendors come on the weekends, and I’m having a great time with it.”
Both women hope the 80s event becomes an annual tradition. “We’ll get used to it this year and do stuff, and then next year maybe make it a little bit bigger, with 80s food, and possibly maybe a band,” Young said.
Scheduling was a challenge in a town with a full calendar. “There’s a lot going on in Little Falls today too, so we just have to figure out a good date for it where there’s not a lot of stuff going on,” she said.
Kelly Grcic opened Chickweed Boutique in October 2021 in the Greek Revival building on the corner of East Main and William streets, where she also lives upstairs.
The store carries clothing, her own skincare line, and handmade items from local vendors. She has kept as many products handmade and local as possible.
Dan Grcic said then that the couple wanted to help rebuild the community. “We just wanted Little Falls to be better,” he said.
The new courtyard extends that idea by giving local vendors and neighbors another place to gather.
