The 1982 Little Falls High School baseball team that won the Class C-D title will officially join the Mounties’ legendary head coach, the late Ted Schoff, in the Greater Utica Sports Hall of Fame on Sunday, September 14.
The Class of 2025, including the 14 members of Little Falls’ state championship team, NCAA Division I ice hockey champion Danny Kane, former Union College basketball coach Bob Montana, and award-winning sportswriter Ron Moshier, will be honored during the Greater Utica Sports Hall of Fame’s 35th annual banquet and induction ceremony at the Monarch Banquet Facilities in Yorkville, New York.
The event begins with a cocktail hour at noon, followed by brunch and an induction ceremony. Tickets are $50 for adults and $25 for children. The deadline for purchasing tickets is September 1. For more information, contact Kevin Neejer at 315-794-9708 or visit the link.
The 1982 Little Falls baseball team featured five seniors – Chris Connolly, George “Corky” Demeree, Gary Mizerak, Joe Morotti, and Brian Rohacek – who also had played for Little League coaches Tom Finnegan and John Dillon on a 12-year-old team that reached the finals of the 1976 state championships. Scott Blumberg, Rich Bucenec, John Douglas, Mike Liddon, Bob Matus, and Mark Rose were juniors, and Mark McEvoy, Eric Pelli, and Mike Pohleven were sophomores on the Mounties’ varsity in 1982.
That team finished 23-6 overall. Little Falls ended the season with a 12-game winning streak, including eight postseason victories in the Section III and Class C-D state playoffs and two final four tournament wins on a memorable championship Saturday at Little Falls’ Veterans Memorial Park.
Little Falls shut out Bishop Coleman of Kingston 2-0 in the state semifinals and later that day claimed the state championship with a 12-5 victory over a previously unbeaten Wilson High School team from Niagara County that was 20-0.
